Depending on the document, personalization can include technologies such as laser engraving, printing and chip encoding. The systems can be configured according to the document type, security requirements and required production capacity.

Muehlbauer personalization systems are integrated into the wider identity infrastructure, receiving the relevant data and processing it according to the defined personalization workflow.

In the Gibraltar national ID project, for example, Muehlbauer systems were used for laser engraving and chip encoding, with vision inspection modules added to enhance the personalization process.

Electronic identity documents require secure cryptographic processes to protect their data and establish trust during personalization and later verification.

Muehlbauer integrates key management and PKI capabilities into the personalization environment. Cryptographic keys can be securely generated, stored and used for the processes required to personalize and authenticate electronic documents.

Within the MB TRUST infrastructure, Hardware Security Modules provide a protected environment for cryptographic keys, while the Document Signer digitally signs data stored in electronic documents.

This creates a secure connection between personalization, cryptographic protection and subsequent document verification.
